Customer Questions

Finding the right information when looking for the right insurance cover can prove frustrating, find answers to some frequently asked questions here.

This section has been provided to answer questions that are sometimes raised. It is by no means an exhaustive list and will be regularly updated. If your question is not answered here, please contact us directly and we will be happy to answer it for you.

How long will it take?

The amount of time from application to policy start varies depending on many factors. If your application is considered to be ‘clean’ that is no further information need to be sought from you or your doctor, this can be very quick. Once the policy is ready to start, the terms will be posted to you along with a request for a start date.

What are causes for delay?

The main reason for delay in processing an application is waiting for information. Often this is when the insurer has requested a report from your doctor. In this instance we have found that a polite telephone call to your doctor’s surgery can speed things along. In the event of additional information being sought from you in relation to a disclosure on the application, the quicker you are able to return this the better. Some insurers provide a fax number, which if you have that facility, can speed the process considerably.

Will I pay the quoted premium?

Any premium you are quoted will assume that your application is accepted on standard rates. If the underwriting process concludes that you pose a higher risk, your premium may be increased, the underwriting decision postponed or even declined. In this case we would encourage you to contact us for further assistance.

Another issue involved in the premium you are offered is your age. All insurers take into account the passing of your birthday or half-birthday, some are even affected by quarter-birthday. This may result in a slightly higher premium at the point of underwriting than when originally quoted.

What information do I need to apply?

The application form requests personal details of the lives to be insured, including occupation, residency, hazardous pursuits, tobacco/nicotine usage, alcohol consumption, past and present medical history, family medical history, doctor’s details and bank details for direct debit set-up.

Am I tied-in at anytime?

No, you are free to cancel the policy at anytime. However, we would encourage you to seek advice prior to doing this to ensure that it is in your best interests to do so.

Do I have to pay for a Doctors report?

No, the insurer will pay this for this. Under no circumstances will you be asked to reimburse the cost, even if you don’t end up starting the policy.

Will I need a medical?

It is quite rare for a medical to be requested. However, if this is the case it will be carried out either by your own GP or a third party company will be instructed. You will be informed of the exact requirements including any specific tests that may be required. In the event that it is not to be conducted by your GP, you will be contacted by telephone to arrange a convenient time and suitable place for the medical to be carried out.

Is there any cash-in value to the policy?

No there is no cash-in value to any policies arranged through Last Quote. If your policy is cancelled or lapses outside of the cooling-off period, your premiums will not be returned.
